Hohenberger Saloon - built in 1900 by the Hohenberger
brothers. It was surrounded by 100 acres that made up a good part of a
community known as Blumenthal (pronounced Blumental if you're German.) The
two story building was the saloon and the one story was a store that also
"pumped" gasoline. There was also a blacksmith shop and a cotton gin.
The main buildings, the family home, the tank house, and the cotton gin steam
engine/boiler still remain. At one time, between WWII and the 50's, we
were told that the surrounding communities would have softball tournaments on
Sunday afternoons out in the big open area east of the pecan bottom. It
might be fun to revive that old custom!
