John & Marilyn Schulz
owners/hosts/maintainance
Almost twelve years ago, we decided to add some new direction to our lives. We bought Blumenthal Farms B&B. That decision has taken us on a journey that we never could have planned. We have met people from all over the world and we have grown to love meeting those from cultures different from our own. We find that we are really not that different after all. They come to our door as strangers, but if we have done our job right, they leave as friends.
Permanent residents are in the human and animal form. John is here on a full-time basis. He also teaches high school math in Johnson City. I now spend my work week in San Marcos teaching kindergarten. Our resident "greeter", Honey Bear, passed away this week. She now rests under the 100 plus years old pecan tree on the banks of Blumenthal Creek and the Pedernales River.
Momma Kitty grew up with Bear. They had a great relationship. As youngsters, they would play games like let's drive "Mom" crazy by acting like they were fighting. I'm a quick learner...ignore them and they stop. They would eat out of the same bowl. Bear thought she was a cat. MK is now the only remaining animal that started out with us here in 1999.

You will be able to see some of the others in our gallery of photos. Eventually, I will dedicate a page just to Bear.
